PhD Scholarships in Event Processing for the Internet of Multimedia Things
(https://insight-centre.org/Job/phd-scholarships-event-processing-internet-multimedia-things)

Funding for PhD scholarships (stipend plus fees) is available at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics (www.insight-centre.org) at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway)

The Insight Centre for Data Analytics is an SFI funded Research Centre which brings together researchers from across Ireland to create a critical mass of more than 400 researchers from Ireland's leading ICT clusters to carry out research on a new generation of data analytics technologies in a number of key application domain areas, such as Health and Human Performance, Smart Communities, Internet of Things, Enterprise and Services and Sustainability and Operations.

The Internet of Multimedia Things has moved from a research vision to concrete manifestations in real-world deployments within smart environments. A key challenge is to process the resulting streams of unstructured data in a low-latency manner.  The PhD studentships will explore fundamental research on low-latency event processing models for unstructured data streams. The successful PhD scholarship candidates will carry out distributed systems research at the interface of event processing and artificial intelligence.

The PhD studentships will explore fundamental research on models and techniques for IoMT Event Processing. The candidate is expected to ground the work in current state-of-the-art in the middleware, event processing, computer vision, and Internet of Things research and come up with scientifically valid evaluation datasets and frameworks needed for low-latency knowledge-centric video event processing.

Applicants should have :
 - At least 2.1 grade (or equivalent) in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in computer science or related discipline.
 - Expertise in experimental design is desired but not a requirement.
 - Non-native English speakers require a IELTS IELTS/TOEFL certificate

Each student will receive a scholarship valued at approximately ?120,000, to include a tax-free stipend of ?18,500 per year for four years, full coverage of tuition fees, funds for conference travel, and an equipment allowance. The positions are open for both EU and non-EU candidates. The anticipated start-date is October/November 2019.

Application procedure: Candidates are requested to submit a covering letter, CV (Word or PDF format only) via e-mail to edward.curry@insight-centre.org using "PhD Scholarships in Event Processing for IoMT" in the subject line.
