PhD Fellow or Postdoc Position in Optimizing Data Management for IoT Analytics at Aalborg Universit
от Роман Станиславович Самарев - Четверг, 4 Июль 2019, 21:49

A position on Optimizing Data Management for IoT Analytics is available at the Center for Data-intensive Systems (Daisy), Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark.
The position is available from September 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Depending on qualifications, the position can be filled at either the PhD Fellow or Postdoc level.

Objective and research project:
The position will be part of the interdisciplinary SEMIOTIC project, in collaboration with world-leading communication technology researchers.
The objective of SEMIOTIC is to orchestrate the communication and the data analytics for
Internet of-Things (IoT) into a meaningfully connected system. Drawing an analogy from semiotics, as a
science that studies meaning and communication, here meaningful reflects the fact that SEMIOTIC
will optimize the interplay between data communication and data analytics processing based on the
value and significance that a specific portion of data has for its end usage, including data accuracy requirements.

The position will be dedicated to developing models capturing data, queries, and accuracy requirements for IoT data analytics,
along with query processing algorithms for distributed, accuracy-aware analytics queries,
and techniques for deriving model parameters and propagating updates, as well as their
adaptation through co-design with the communication system.
Finally, the models, algorithms, and techniques should be able to learn from the past behaviour of the overall system and thus continuously
adapt and improve.

- M.Sc. (PhD level) or PhD (Postdoc level) in computer science
- excellent scientific background and publication record (Postdoc level)
- demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team
- excellent communication skills in English, oral as well as written
- good programming skills

Advanced experience in at least two of the following areas (relative to the position level):
- On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP)
- data analytics
- distributed data management
- data stream processing
- approximate data management
- machine learning

- perform excellent scientific research
- develop research prototypes and conduct experiments
- publish in leading international conferences and journals
- participate in activities of the group and the department

For a PhD Fellow position, the starting annual salary is approximately DKK 386,000 (ca. EUR 51,750), including pension contributions (which can be paid out as salary) and pre taxes.

For a Postdoc position, the annual salary is approximately DKK 450,000 (ca. EUR 60,000), inclusive of pension contributions and pre taxes. For foreign researchers who qualify for the tax scheme for foreign researchers (PhD degree required), the annual salary inclusive of pension contributions and after taxes is approximately DKK 300,000 (ca. EUR 40,000).
