The first position will be joint with the NLP (led by Prof. Antoine
Bosselut) lab. For this position, we are looking to hire a postdoctoral
researcher candidate in the area of *recommender systems, reinforcement
learning (for education), *and* machine learning for education*. You will
have the opportunity to work at the intersection of two highly talented and
motivated EPFL research groups. You will lead innovative research projects
in collaboration with Swiss industry, and be able to dedicate time to
pursue additional research projects on any topic of your choosing.

For the second position, we are looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher
candidate in the general area of *machine learning for education*. Main
topics of interest are *student modeling* and *reinforcement learning*. You
will be able to work in a highly talented an motivated EPFL research lab
that has access to a variety of learning environments and data sets.


Applications should have completed or be close to completing a PhD in
computer science, information science, or other related technical fields.
We expect a strong scientific background and a proven publication record in
machine learning, natural language processing, artificial intelligence,
data mining, or statistics with a focus on educational data. Excellent
communication skills in English are required.

The PhD applicant will have to follow the PhD mechanisms of

We are looking for two highly motivated applicants with a strong
expertise in concurrent and distributed algorithms and data
structures. In particular, the project focuses on building
the theoretical underpinning for non-volatile memory computing
and on designing recoverable algorithms.

Next generation computer systems will rely on emerging memory
technologies, such as Non-Volatile Main Memory (NVMM),
to address the high computational demands of modern applications
and provide persistence. One research goal of the project
is to build the theoretical underpinning for NVMM-based computing.
Specifically, the project aspires to develop a sound theoretical
framework that will facilitate the review of algorithmic techniques
for NVMM-based concurrent computing in a unified way,
as well as their comparison with each other and with their
non NVM-based analogs. The project will also focus on
designing fundamental synchronization primitives, and
essential concurrent data structures and algorithms,
including indexing structures for big data, and
in particular of data series analytics, whose
execution will be recoverable at no significant cost.

Junior researchers with expertise on data management
and indexing, and/or on concurrent transaction management
are encouraged to apply for these positions.

The project will be performed in collaboration with
the team of Prof. Themis Palpanas from the University of Paris,
and will include opportunities for research visits.

The CURML (Centre Universitaire Romand de Médecine Légale) of Geneva (Institute of Legal Medicine of the University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine), headed by Prof. S. Grabherr opens a PhD position in the field of Machine Learning for the Unit of forensic imaging and anthropology.

The specific domain of interest is data modelling and analysis applied to forensic imaging and anthropology. The candidate will adapt and apply machine learning algorithms and protocols to the recognition and classification of images for forensic imaging.

The Viper group at the University of Geneva (Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Sciences), headed by Prof. S. Marchand-Maillet, in collaboration with the DMML group of Prof A. Kalousis opens a 4-year PhD position in the field of Machine Learning for Medical Data Analysis. The specific domain of interest is Flow Cytometry data modeling and analysis.

A two-year Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the intersection of Machine Learning/AI, Database Systems, and Software Performance Modeling, at York University, Toronto, Canada.

The successful candidate will work under the co-supervision of Prof. Marin Litoiu and Prof. Manos Papagelis on a research project sponsored by IBM and NSERC. Additional responsibilities include mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, publishing in top venues, interacting with the industrial partner.

Our focus is the development and application of computational methods for cancer research, focusing on personalized therapies, tumor heterogeneity, and therapy resistance.

If you have a computational background and a strong drive to develop and apply computational methods to promote cancer research, go ahead and apply! The aim of our qualification programme is the education of a new generation of computational biologists, who can do independent research to tackle various aspects of the field, like cancer heterogeneity and precision oncology.

What does the programme look like?

Our programme covers the broad range from basic science to biomedical application in cancer therapy. You will be able to:

    - learn about the clinical challenges and daily routine
    - discuss ethical issues and issues of data privacy related to clinical studies
    - get to know state-of-the-art scientific knowledge of rapidly developing research fields and technologies   
          in cancer research, and
    - become well integrated in the international scientific community.

What are the prerequisites for application?

You either have a degree in areas of computer sciences, physics or mathematics and you ideally had contact with life sciences, or you have a degree in the life sciences and you have a strong interest and background in computing or mathematics. You should have finished your Master’s degree by March 2022.

The position is funded at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin for 3 years and offers competitive salaries. The PhD can be started between 1st of April till latest 1st of June 2022.
